Ageing potential
Corton is a wine for laying down. It benefits from remaining in the cellar for at least 5 years, and can be kept for 10 to 20 years.
Origins
Appellation Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune. The Hill of Corton lies in the midst of a cluster of famous wine-growing villages - Ladoix-Serrigny, Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Savigny-lès-Beaune - with, to the North, the southern end of the Côte de Nuits where vineyards mingle with stone quarries (Comblanchien limestone). The vineyards lie at heights of 250-330 metres and form a kind of amphitheater not found elsewhere in the Côte.
The Rognet is located in the village of Ladoix-Serrigny, it was formerly part of Corton, like its neighbor Le Corton in Aloxe-Corton. Rogner in french means “to cut something off at the edges in order to rectify its shape”. This is what happened to this plot whose edges were rectified so that it would no longer be in Le Corton d'Aloxe-Corton.
Vinification and maturing
Grapes are hand-picked, passed over a sorting table, crushed, de-stemmed then fermented for about 18 days with 2 cap-punching and 2 pumping over per day and then aged for about 18 months.
Vintage : 2018
All along the year 2018, the weather was very diverse, even atypical according to the month and the area. After a rainy start in the year, the spring period was very summery with sunshine above the seasonal norms and quite scarce rain. This trend continued until the harvest with a very hot and dry summer, this allowed the grapes to finish their maturation early.
Harvest started on the 20th of August and lasted until the third week of September… a particularly long amplitude. At least quality is here for this 2018 vintage, but also quantity. Grapes arrived to the winery with a perfect state of health. Concentrated, structured, generous, rich and powerful are some of the adjectives that characterize this magnificent vintage.
