Beaune takes its name from the Gaulish sun and water god Belenus. The town was often called the Queen of Wines. The very image of Burgundy and the capital of its wine, Beaune attracts attention from all over the world when the wines from its Hospices are sold. The "Belissand" climat takes its name from the Gallic goddess of fire and springs, Bélisama. In spring, underground waters gush to the surface.
